KATHMANDU, Dec 5: Nepal Scout is preparing for local, provincial, and national council elections after a hiatus of 12 years.

Lok Bahadur Bhandari, the coordinator and chief commissioner of the ad hoc committee, stated that the election of local council of scouts working in the field of informal education of children and youth will be held from January 12 to January 14 and the election of provincial councils and national council will be held on January 20.

A notice has been issued to fill 'online' membership applications within December 16 before the election. International representatives of the World Organization of the Scout Movement (WOSM) and The World Association of Girl Guides and Girl Scouts (WAGGGS) have been invited to oversee the election.

Since the last election in 2068 BS, no further elections have taken place in the Scout organization. Following the resignation of the then chief commissioner in 2070 BS, Nepal Scout has been functioning under ad hoc committees.

As per the Nepal Scout Act of 2050 BS, elections are mandated to be held every four years. However, due to internal disputes, elections have been delayed.
